It has been 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story film was released, establishing Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing viewers to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but leaving viewers wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang

The preview shows Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser avoids is what the sheriff is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the insignia pinned to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
